Rancho La Puerta is one of the most charming places you'll ever see. I absolutely love the colorful yet elegant Mexican decor, as well as the amazing serenity of the place, and of course you can't beat the climate - great for year-round outdoor activities.
Rancho La Puerta is probably the world's very first "eco" resort, and they practice what they teach by serving organic fruits and vegetables grown on their own organic farm. In operation since 1940, this small, intimate resort Spa has an unmatched expertise in creating a perfect environment for relaxation - your every need is attended to in a quiet, unobtrusive way.
The food at Rancho La Puerta is amazing as it's lacto-ovo vegetarian and includes a seafood "catch of the day" five to six times a week for dinner, and several times for lunch. The addition of the Cooking School offers hands-on classes and an unforgettable experience for anyone looking to eat and cook healthier. Everything I tried was so delicious that I enjoyed every meal and even went home with one of their cookbooks (available in their gift shop/boutique). It's truly a superb all-natural diet, as they claim, that is low in fat, sodium, and refined flour and sugar, while high in energy, fiber, and complex carbohydrates (the good kind!). Wine and Tecate beer are served only on Fridays. This may sound like a difficult cuisine to adjust to for those used to eating a high-fat, high-sodium, meat-heavy diet, but believe me after a week of eating healthy, delicious food you will leave feeling energized, lighter, and cleansed of toxins - I know I did! I am doing my best to stick to their diet with only a few modifications.
Most importantly, Rancho La Puerta is, without doubt, in the same league as many of the world's finest (and most expensive) Spa Resorts, yet it is one of the best values I've found - this is a unique case of getting way more than what you've paid for!
